Frequently Asked Questions about Doulas
What exactly does a birth doula do?
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and educational support to women during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. As your doula, I provide individualized care and information. I will be a continuous support and advocate during your labor and help you have the birth experience YOU want!
When should I hire a doula?
Most families hire a doula between their second and third trimesters. This allows plenty of time for us to get to know each other, discuss your birth preferences, and prepare you for your amazing birth experience!
Does a doula replace my partner?
Not at all! Your doula knows birth, but your partner knows YOU. Together, we make a dream birth team. As your doula, I provide partner support. as well. Helping them know how to be involved, suggesting different comfort techniques, and ensuring your partner is just as prepared for birth as you are.
Do you attend hospital or home births?
Both! I have experience with all kinds of births: hospital births, home births, medicated births, unmedicated births, VBAC's, twins...you name it! My goal is to help you feel informed and supported, no matter how or where you choose to bring your baby into the world.
What if I need a C-section?
Doula support is SO valuable, even during a c-section. As your doula, I offer the following support before, during, and after your c-section: Planning and prep in the case of a planned c-section, Information and education about the procedure, Advocacy and a calming presence before, after, and potentially during the procedure. Postpartum and lactation support.
Kind words from families I’ve supported
"So grateful I had Elise as my doula! She was wonderful. Her counter pressure and massages helped me get through contractions. She offered gentle words of encouragement. Her presence allowed my husband to stay right in my line of sight and hold my hand, which was very reassuring. She was knowledgeable and easy to work with. Forever grateful she was part of my birth team and for all she did to help bring my sweet baby here! Would definitely hire her as my doula again."
Veronica
“This was my first birth with a doula and I can’t recommend it enough! The comfort I felt when Elise showed up was everything I needed after already having labored off and on for 26 hours.
She came ready to help in any way, and she absolutely did. From counter pressure, massage, words of encouragement, snacks etc, she was everything I could have hoped for in a doula!
Having her for the time I finished laboring at home was great, but having her for the drive over to the hospital and our time there was vital! 10 out of 10 experience with Elise!

"I attended the birth of my grandson and Elise was my daughter's doula. I was so impressed with her knowledge, her intuitiveness and her willingness to jump in and do whatever my daughter needed. And she did this without displacing my son-in-law from his role. It was a beautiful birth and Elise offered comfort, encouragement, a peaceful presence, and love. I highly recommend her to any expectant mother.
